The national winners of the 2015 Pride of New Zealand Awards were announced at a very special ceremony last night, held at the Auckland Memorial War Museum. Over 200 deserving guests were treated to a spectacular evening with musical performances from Boh Runga and Jamie McDell.
The national winners in the six award categories are:
Bravery & Heroism - Dudley Andrews, Kaitia
Community Spirit - Shaun Rankin, Napier
Emergency Services - Maggie Houston, Hari Hari
Environment - Allan Anderson, Wanganui
Fundraiser of the Year - Robbie Ritchie, Auckland
Lifetime Achievement - Jim Edwards, Napier
And the winner of the TSB Bank People's Choice Award was given to Keri and Ryan Topperwien from Whakatane, who lost their 3-year-old son, Chace, to a rare form of leukaemia, but in the two years since have turned their grief into a charity called the Dream Chase Foundation that supports families of children battling cancer. The couple received a $10,000 helping hand from major sponsor TSB Bank, and we look forward to catching up with them in the coming months to see how they've been able to use it to help their charity.
Congratulations to our finalists and national award winners - you're such an inspiration.
